Warren Spahn Award
The Warren Spahn Award is presented annually by the Oklahoma Sports Museum in Guthrie, Okla. to the top left-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball. The award is given in recognition of Oklahoma's Warren Spahn. The late Hall of Famer is still the winningest left-hander in MLB history. The award, given since 1999, is based on a combination of wins, strikeouts and earned run average during the regular season. The finals standings show each player's statistics, his rank () in that category and his total number of points.
The winner of the 2007 Warren Spahn Award is C.C. Sabathia, Cleveland Indians. Sabathia had a combined 19 wins, 209 strikeouts and a 3.21 earned run average.
Past winners have included Randy Johnson, (1999-2002, Arizona), Andy Pettitte (2003, New York Yankees), Johan Santana (2004 and 2006, Minnesota) and Dontrelle Willis (2005, Florida). Following are the top three finishers for the 2007 Warren Spahn Award from those left-handers with 10 or more wins.
1. C.C. Sabathia , Cleveland, 209 strikeouts (4); 19 wins (1), 3.21 earned run average (2) -- 7 points.
2. Johan Santana, Minnesota, 235 (2), 15 (3t), 3.33 (3) -- 8 points.
3. Cole Hamels, Philadelphia, 177 (6), 15 (3t), 3.39 (4) -- 13 points.
